- Abstract
- Particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites (MMCs) have potential advantages such as high wear resistance, low specific gravity and low cost and therefore have a strong application future in many fields of mechanical engineering. Processing, structure and tribological properties of particulate reinforced MMCs were discussed. It was shown that the bearings fabricated from the MMCs exhibit lower coefficient of friction and higher wear resistance in comparison with the unreinforced Al alloys and bronse. The results of partical antifrictional applications of the MMCs were given.
