- Abstract
- It is shown that the fluctuation free volume in polymers has the fractal structure, owing to what the microvoids, which form it, are simulated by a sphere with the dimension which is distinct from 3. The indicated microvoids form the structure, which is the reflection of polymer structure. This structure of microvoids represents the peculiar pulsating percolation cluster due to the thermodynamically nonequilibrium structure of polymer. The multifractal nature of the structure (and, as a consequence, of a free volume) of semi-crystalline polyethylene is experimentally confirmed and the estimation of its multifractal characteristics is given on the basis of the diffusion properties of this polymer. The polyethylene melt is an Euclidean object with the monodisperse distribution of microvoids sizes. The indicated circumstances define the different form of diffusivity dependences on the size of gas-diffusant molecules. The microvoid itself is a specific multifractal whose fractal properties are defined not by its structure, but by its environment.
