- Abstract
- The present review is generalization of the modern literary data on synthesis, properties and applications polymeric nanocomposites based on silicates of layered type (PLS). Various methods of PLS synthesis are considered, such as: polymerization in situ, solution and melt intercalation. Published results on polymer layered silicate nanocomposites are reviewed concerning their characterisation and properties with particular reference to fire retardant behaviour. It was supposed, that an increase in flame retardancy is produced by PLS ability to initiate a formation of carbonaceous barrier onto the surface of the burning polymeric nanocomposite, which can limit reactions of heat and mass transfer in the zone of combustion.
