- Abstract
- Measurement of local elastic properties of composite materials is critical when designing items made thereof. However the experimental methods in use fail to provide reliable results. Modeling of penetration of spherical indenters of various sizes into a carbon-carbon composite matrix was carried out; equivalent stress-based strength analysis of the stress state of the matrix was performed. The large-diameter spherical indenter was shown to be optimal for elasticity modulus measurements. It was noticed that since the contact area stiffness is significant, stiffness of loading circuit components for the indentation device should be high. Obtained results may be used for indentation devices development.
