- Abstract
- The paper presents the results of the experimental study of thermal strains and thermal expansion coefficients (TEC) for tubular specimens made from solid-braided reinforcements based on UMT40-3K carbon fibers and a carbon ceramic matrix. The strains were measured with the aid of strain gauges within the temperature range from -40 to +70 °C in the ILKA-KPK400 thermal chamber. The specimens had the following reinforcing structures: 0/±45°, ±45°, 0/±60°, ±60° relatives to the longitudinal axis. Main experimental results are given. Analyzed was the effect of porosity, ratio of material components, reinforcing structures on the values and the rules of TEC variations along orthotropic axes. It was shown that high porosity (20-30 %) and low TCE values of material components were the main reasons for non-typical ratios between thermal strains of the specimens with examined reinforcing structures.
