- Abstract
- This article presents the results of studies on application of up to 15 wt. % of pre-calcined galvanic sludge as a functional additive for the production of acid-resistant and heat-resistant ceramics based on low-plasticity clay. Other additives in the composition of the charge were 5 wt. % boric acid and up to 5 wt. % lanthanum oxide. During calcination, calcium carbonate and heavy metal hydroxides decompose in the galvanic sludge, allowing these processes to be eliminated during ceramic firing. As a result, galvanic sludge ceases to be a pore-forming additive, and the oxides in its composition and lanthanum oxide actively interact with the borosilicate melt formed during firing. This reduces the porosity, increases the strength, acid resistance and heat resistance of ceramics and increases the amount of galvanic sludge that can be disposed of while maintaining the environmental safety of products.
