- Abstract
- The article analyzes the causes of nonlinear distortions and explores an approach to the generation of ultra-wideband (UWB) signals, which differs from the classical one and is based on the deliberate use of nonlinear transient distortions in commercially available UWB amplifiers. The problem of creating simple and cost-effective sources of UWB signals is relevant for mass applications, such as sensor networks and the Internet of Things. The proposed method consists in the operation of nonlinear transient processes that occur when the amplifier operates in the deep saturation mode. The standard UWB amplifier SBB5089Z was used as an experimental sample. An example of generating a wideband radio pulse by exciting an amplifier at frequencies where its resonant properties are manifested in a nonlinear mode is given. The analysis of the time and spectral characteristics of the received signal confirms the possibility of forming an UWB pulse with minimal circuit complexity. It is concluded that this approach, which sacrifices precise control over the pulse parameters in favor of a radical simplification of the scheme, is a promising direction for the development of compact and inexpensive UWB systems.
