- Abstract
- The study focuses on the environmental safety assessment of silicone sealants based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) when introduced into agricultural soils. The aim was to investigate the degradation processes of acidic and neutral PDMS sealants in sod-podzolic and gray forest soils of the Meshchera Lowland and Opolye by measuring changes in integral toxicity. The elemental composition of soils was determined by X-ray fluorescence analysis. Background toxicity and toxicity of "soil-polymer" mixtures were measured using a Biotox-10M device with an Ecolum-15 biosensor. A two-factor mathematical model was constructed in Mathcad using the Box-Wilson design, describing the dependence of integral toxicity on soil moisture (12-32 %) and exposure time (9-51 days). Maximum toxicity values were observed at 30 35 days, 20 % moisture and 25 оC. Even under maximum degradation conditions, the toxicity index Tint did not exceed 11.1 units, which is significantly below the threshold value (20 units). All samples were classified as non-toxic. The introduction of PDMS-based sealants into soil under normal conditions does not lead to exceedances of maximum permissible concentrations of toxic substances.
