- Paper is devoted to questions of operative definition of grains numbers of steel and the analysis of their statistical distribution on sizes. For these purposes authors offer a method based on estimation of a conditional diameter of grain both at presence of disturbance, in particular, in the form of "ruptures" of boundary lines of grains, and at their absence. Within the bounds of scientific research by authors program Metal Grain Calculator has been developed, which main function is operative definition of the average (conditional) size of steel grain. Program Metal Grain Calculator can be applied in practice of metallography both on metallurgical, and at the machine-building factories.
